Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre
The Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Monitoring Centre at Department of Pharmacology, AIIMS, Bilaspur, functions under the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), coordinated by the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ghaziabad. The primary aim of the AMC is to detect, assess, understand, and report ADR to enhance patient safety and promote the safe and effective use of medicines.
The centre collects ADR reports from healthcare professionals, and after due analysis, forwards them to the national database for further evaluation. This activity is crucial for continuous monitoring of drug safety, and also for detecting new or rare side effects, thereby improving prescribing practices, and updating safety information on medicines. The AMC conducts regular sensitization lectures, public awareness programs, training sessions, and educational activities to build a strong culture of pharmacovigilance within the hospital and community.
The centre encourages doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical students, and patients to actively report any suspected adverse drug reactions using the prescribed forms, email, or the mobile app of PvPI. ADRs can be reported via telephone at +911978280482 or the ADR form can be submitted to the Department of Pharmacology, Second Floor, Academic Block between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For any queries related to adverse drug reactions, Dr. Meenakshi Meenu, Associate Professor at AIIMS Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, serves as the current Coordinator of the Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre (AMC).
