1. Using This Website

This page explains how to navigate the AIIMS-BILASPUR website, how to use its accessibility features, and whom to contact if something does not work. If you cannot find what you need here, please contact us and we will help.

2. Accessibility Features

This website is built to be usable by everyone, including visitors who use screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, or screen magnification.

A. Changing the text size

Three controls appear in the top bar of every page:

• A+ — increases the text size
• A — restores the default text size
• A- — decreases the text size

You can also use your browser: press Ctrl and + together to zoom in, Ctrl and - to zoom out, and Ctrl and 0 to return to 100%. On a Mac, use Cmd instead of Ctrl. This website remains usable at up to 400% zoom.

B. Skip to main content

Every page begins with a Skip to Main Content link. Press Tab once when a page loads and the link appears; press Enter to jump straight past the header and navigation to the page content. This saves keyboard and screen-reader users from moving through the whole menu on every page.

C. Keyboard navigation

The entire website can be operated without a mouse.

• Tab — move forward to the next link, button or form field
• Shift + Tab — move back to the previous item
• Enter — open the focused link or activate the focused button
• Spacebar — activate a button, or tick a checkbox
• Arrow keys — move between options in a dropdown or menu
• Esc — close an open dialog, menu or popup
• Home / End — jump to the top or bottom of a long page

The item you are currently on is shown with a visible outline, so you always know where you are.

D. Screen reader access

This website has been tested with commonly used screen readers and works with all of them. It is built with standard headings, landmarks and labels so that your screen reader can describe the page correctly.

• NVDA (free, Windows) — download from NV Access
• JAWS (Windows) — Freedom Scientific
• VoiceOver (Mac, iPhone, iPad) — built in. Press Cmd + F5 on a Mac, or turn it on under Settings › Accessibility on iPhone and iPad.
• TalkBack (Android) — built in, under Settings › Accessibility.

Useful screen-reader shortcuts on this site: press H to move between headings, L for lists, T for tables, and D for page landmarks such as the navigation and main content areas.

E. Reading the site in your own language

A language selector appears in the top bar of every page. It uses the Government of India's Bhashini translation service and can render this website in Hindi, Bengali and other scheduled Indian languages. Choose your language once and the setting is remembered as you move between pages.

3. Finding Information

A. Search

The search box in the header searches the whole website. Type a word or phrase and press Enter. If you are not sure of the exact wording, use a single distinctive word — for example tender, recruitment or a scientist's surname.

B. Navigation menu

The main menu across the top groups the site into sections such as About Us, Research, Academics, People, Careers and Tenders. Hovering over a section — or pressing Enter on it with the keyboard — reveals the pages within it.

C. Sitemap

The Sitemap lists every page on this website on a single page. It is often the quickest way to find something when you know it exists but not where it sits.

4. Viewing Documents and Media

A. PDF documents

Tenders, notices, recruitment advertisements and reports are published as PDF files. The file size is shown next to each link so you know what you are downloading before you begin.

Most browsers open PDFs directly. If a PDF does not open, install a free reader such as Adobe Acrobat Reader. To save a PDF rather than open it, right-click the link and choose Save link as…

B. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files

Some documents are published in Microsoft Office formats (.doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx). These open in Microsoft Office, or in free alternatives such as LibreOffice. Your browser may also be able to preview them.

C. Videos

Videos in the Gallery play in the page. Use the player controls to pause, adjust volume, turn on captions, or view the video full screen. The player can be operated from the keyboard: Spacebar plays and pauses, and the arrow keys seek and change the volume.

5. Filling In Forms

Where the website asks for information — such as the Feedback form — required fields are marked, and the expected format is shown beneath each field. If something is entered incorrectly, the message appears next to that specific field explaining what to correct, so you do not have to check the whole form.

6. Browser Requirements

This website works in all current browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge and Apple Safari, on desktop computers, tablets and mobile phones. For the best experience and for your own security, please keep your browser updated to its latest version.
