To provide comprehensive state-of-the-art neonatal care to all neonates in the hilly region of Himachal Pradesh and surrounding areas.

Mission Statement

Inpatient Department
Total Bed Strength – 68

Outpatient Department
Services are available on all days except Sundays and General Holidays.

Expansion Plan

Clinical Services

  • To establish a 30-bedded state-of-the-art tertiary care neonatal referral centre at AIIMS Bilaspur with neonatal surgical, cardiac, cardiothoracic, and neurosurgical facilities under one roof.
  • Establishment of neonatal subspecialty clinics.
  • Establishment of a human milk bank.
  • Starting neonatal ECMO services.
  • To start outreach, emergency, and neonatal transport in/out services for neonates living in hilly terrains.
  • Regular mentoring visits and hand-holding support for SNCUs across Himachal Pradesh.
  • Establishment of a separate 8-bedded Outborn NICU.
  • Establishment of teleconference facilities with peripheral centres providing neonatal services.
  • Quality improvement initiatives focusing on low-cost interventions.

Academics and Teaching

  • Modular teaching and training programs have already been initiated for undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD Pediatrics), super-specialty (DM Neonatology) trainees, as well as nursing students and staff.
  • Establishment of certificate courses in neonatal nursing.
  • Regular training of Medical Officers and Neonatal Nurses across the state and conduct of short-term observership courses at AIIMS Bilaspur for trained Medical Officers and Neonatal Nurses for a duration of two weeks.
  • Development of national and international collaborative centres for neonatal training including faculty, nursing staff, and resident exchange programs.

Research

  • Establishment of a database for newborn morbidity and mortality.
  • Development of national and international collaborations for neonatal research.
  • Obtaining research grants for neonatal projects.
  • Publication of research work in high-impact factor journals.
