Introduction

The Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology at AIIMS Bilaspur is a tertiary referral centre providing comprehensive care for autoimmune and inflammatory rheumatic diseases. The department integrates clinical excellence, advanced immunological diagnostics, translational research, and super-specialty training to serve the population of Himachal Pradesh and neighboring regions.

Clinical Services

The Department of Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology provides comprehensive services for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of autoimmune and rheumatic diseases. The department offers outpatient care, inpatient treatment, diagnostic procedures, and specialized therapies including joint injections and biologic therapies.

Diagnosis and Treatment
The department specializes in identifying and treating a broad spectrum of rheumatic and autoimmune diseases, including:

  • Inflammatory Arthritis
    Rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease-associated arthritis, and undifferentiated spondyloarthritis.
  • Degenerative Arthritis
    Osteoarthritis.
  • Connective Tissue Diseases
    Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE/lupus), systemic sclerosis (scleroderma), idiopathic inflammatory myopathies, primary Sjögren’s syndrome, mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), and undifferentiated connective tissue disease (UCTD).
  • Vasculitis
    ANCA-associated vasculitis (GPA, MPA, EGPA), IgA vasculitis, Takayasu arteritis, giant cell arteritis (temporal arteritis), Behçet’s disease, polyarteritis nodosa (PAN), and secondary vasculitis.
  • Crystal Arthritis
    Gout and CPPD (pseudogout).
  • Soft Tissue Rheumatism
    Fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndromes, tendonitis, and bursitis.
  • Pediatric Rheumatic Diseases

Advanced Immunology Laboratory (ECR Lab)

The Endocrinology, Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology Laboratory is equipped with molecular, cellular, and proteomic platforms including PCR thermocycler, fluorescent microscope, multimode reader, line immunoassay analyzer, and fully automated nephelometer.

  • Immunosuppressive therapy supervision.

Expansion Plan

Expansion Plan:

  • The department envisions expanding research capabilities by involving researchers at all levels including master students, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers performing cutting-edge translational research.
  • The department aims to establish translational laboratories with a focus on development of immunotherapeutics.
  • Provide additional services like Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and Nail Fold Capillaroscopy to improve the diagnosis and management of autoimmune and rheumatic conditions.
