General Medicine

Introduction

The Department of Internal Medicine, also colloquially called General Medicine or simply Medicine, is one of the foremost broad specialties. The domain and expertise of the department spans from primary care, emergency, in-hospital to intensive care. For day-to-day functioning, the department’s faculty works in three separate units. Each unit is responsible for its own clinical teaching and care of indoor and OPD patients. The department is equipped with 2D Echo, multipara monitors, and state-of-the-art ventilators. The Department of Internal Medicine is actively involved in MBBS teaching in both didactic and clinical training. It also imparts a three-year MD degree in Medicine with three positions available every six months.

Services

In-patients Department:
60 bedded indoor ward including 4 bedded HDU, 4 bedded Medicine Coronary Care Unit, and a separate 10 bedded Medicine Main ICU. Around 4000 patients were managed in the Medicine ward in the last one year. Round-the-clock medical emergency services and interdepartmental consults are provided. The department also runs a separate Pulmonary ward and ICU.

Out-patients Department:
Daily Medicine OPD catering to around 250 patients per day. Special evening clinics in Geriatrics and Non-Communicable Diseases are conducted twice a week each. Delivery of ATT and ART.
