The Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery aspires to become a leading, state-of-the-art centre of excellence. Services
- Congenital Anomalies: The department provides specialised care for cleft lip and palate repair, microtia correction, torticollis correction, skin tag excision, and management of hand anomalies including syndactyly, polydactyly, and radial club hand.
- Trauma Reconstruction: Services include split-thickness skin grafting, local flap coverage, and advanced microvascular free flap reconstructions for trauma patients.
- Onco-Reconstruction: Collaborative cancer-related reconstructive surgeries are performed using local and free flaps in coordination with the Departments of Oncosurgery, Dental Surgery, and ENT.
- Facial Reconstruction: Restorative procedures are offered for post-traumatic as well as congenital facial deformities.
Infrastructure and Clinical Facilities
The Department operates a 15-bedded ward, including 2 dedicated High Dependency Unit (HDU) beds. Outpatient Department (OPD) services are available three days a week — Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Research
Academic Programmes & Research Activities
The Department conducts a three-year M.Ch. residency programme, providing comprehensive training in Burns and Plastic Surgery.
In addition to the structured academic curriculum, research forms an integral component of the programme. Departmental research activities include M.Ch. dissertation work and publication of scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals.
The Department actively promotes a strong academic and research culture, encouraging trainees and faculty members to participate in evidence-based research, clinical innovation, and scholarly activities.
Expansion Plan
Strategic plans are underway to establish a dedicated Burns Unit, integrated with a specialised Skin Bank. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of tertiary burn care available in Himachal Pradesh
